Umshyrpi College, a minority coeducational institution (Under section 2(g) of the National Commission for Minority Educational Institutions Act 2004 Vide letter no. CE/MS/1/2006/61) was established in the year 1994 by a group of like minded people with a common vision to acc1. BACHELOR OF ARTS (B. A.)

2. BACHELOR OF COMMERCE (B. COM)

CRITERIA FOR ADMISSION :

1. Students who have passed plus 2 (10+2) in their respective stream or an equivalent examination from a recognized Board in India or abroad which is considered as equivalent by the University shall be eligible for admission into the First Semester of Honours Degree Course.

2. Students who have passed plus 2 (10+2) or an equivalent examination from any Stream from a recognized Board in India/Abroad have the option to change to Arts Stream and the studentsfrom the Science Stream have the option to change to Commerce Stream only.

REGISTRATION :

A Student shall be required to be registered under the University within one Semester of his/her enrollment.

TRANSFER :

No inter-college transfer among the Colleges shall be allowed beyond the First Semester Examinations. Other transfers shall be allowed only on merit of each case as per NEHU Rules.

CHANGE OF CENTER OF EXAMINATION :

i) A student shall apply to the Controller of Examinations through the Principal of his/her college duly endorsed by the Principal of the Centre to which the change is being sought.
ii) A prescribed fee shall be deposited by NEHU Challan payable to North Eastern Hill University and the instrument of payment shall be attached to the application form.
iii) Change of Examination Centre is not permitted to a Centre/College to which the affiliation of the Subjects/Course has not been given by the University.

DURATION OF THE HONOURS DEGREE LEVEL EXAMINATION :

i) The Honours Degree Course will comprise 6 (six) Semesters spread over 3(three) Academic Years.
ii) Semester means a half-yearly programme or term of studies.
iii) 1st (First), 3rd (Third) and 5th (Fifth) will be Odd Semesters.
iv) 2nd (Second), 4th (Fourth) and 6th (Sixth) will be Even Semesters.

CONDUCT OF EXAMINATION :

i) At the end of each Semester, there shall be an examination as per the Semester Academic Calendar given below :
ii) Evaluation in each course shall be on the basis of performance through continuous assessment and the end semester examinations. The weightage assigned to the continous assessment and end semester examinations shall be in the ratio 1:3.

ACADEMIC CALENDAR FOR SEMESTER UNDER GRADUATE :

Students shall be allowed to proceed to the next semester irrespective of failed papers/arrear papers subject to payment of fees and fulfillment of other prescribed conditions laid down by the University.

DISTRIBUTION OF PAPERS/MARKS
SEMESTER-WISE IN DIFFERENT COURSE STRUCTURE:

The distribution of Papers/Marks over Six Semesters in respect of Honours Papers, Elective Combination Papers and
other Compulsory Papers for the following Stream shall be as laid sown in the respective syllabi and as indicated in the
Table -1 and Table - 2.
i) For Arts Stream (B.A. Hons.)
ii) For Commerce Stream (B. Com Hons.)

STRUCTURE:

i) Compulsory Subjects - English, Alternative English/MIL, Envrionmental Studies.
ii) Honours Elective Subjects - as listed in the Eligibility for Subject Combination.
iii) Elective Subjects - Two subject combination to be taken in addition to the Honours Subjects as listed in the Eligibility for
Subject Combination under Elective Group - A or B.

A student shall be allowed to opt for the Honours Courses in a subject and two corresponding Elective Subjects either from
Elective Group-A or Elective Group-B as indicated in the following table :-

N.B. Elective Language refers to Hindi, Bengali, Nepali, Khasi, Garo, Mizo and English

Course Structure For Bachelor of Commerce

The student shall be required to choose a group (A, B, C or D) of their choice in the Third Semester and they would continue with the group in the rest of the semesters.
