Ayurveda for pain management

One of the main signs of Spondylitis, Arthritis, or a joint disorder is PAIN, which is the body’s defensive reaction to any sort of internal or external damage to the tissues. It can be acute (less than 6 weeks) chronic (More than 6 weeks). The pain usually goes away after the injury is prevented and the damage is reversed with medication and therapy.

BACK PAIN

About 60 – 70% of adults get back pain at some point in their lives and it is the next most common problem to visit a doctor after a cold. Men & women both are equally affected by this pain. Back pain can range from a dull, constant ache to sudden, sharp pain and is considered the costly health problem and the number one cause of job disability.

LOWER BACK PAIN

Lower back pain management is an irritation we’ve all endured, whether it’s from the gym, lifting a large object, or some other unknown cause. It’s one of the most common chronic illnesses that affect people of all ages.

Muscular pains, Degenerative conditions like spondylosis, sciatica, disc bulge or repetitive stress injury to wrong posture, anything can intense back pain

  • Lumbar spondylosis – As people age, the joints in the lumbar spine wear out, resulting in lumbar spondylosis. The most common symptoms of lumbar spondylosis are stiffness and low back pain.
  • Sciatica – Sciatica is a form of low back pain that moves down one or both legs. Certain motions, such as spinning, leaning, or coughing, may aggravate the pain.
  • Bulging disks – In much the same way as ruptured disks, a bulging disk can result in more pressure on a nerve.
  • Arthritis – Osteoarthritis can affect the joints in the hips, lower back, and other places. In some circumstances, the space around the spinal cord narrows. This is known as spinal stenosis.
  • Abnormal curvature of the spine – If the spine curves in an unusual way, back pain can result. For example, scoliosis, in which the spine curves to the side.
  • Osteoporosis – Bones, together with the vertebrae of the spine, become brittle and porous, making compression fractures more likely.

KNEE JOINT PAIN

Knee pain management affects people of all ages and is a mutual complaint. An injury to the knee, such as a ruptured ligament or broken cartilage, may cause pain. Medical conditions such as arthritis, gout, and infections can cause Knee Pain.

  • Osteoarthritis – Common joint disease of the knee, with changes in cartilage due to wear and tear and mostly age-related. The main symptoms would be knee pain, swelling, difficulty sitting down or climbing steps with the stiffness of knee joints
  • Rheumatoid arthritis – The most painful type of arthritis, is an inflammatory disease that can affect almost every joint in your body, including your knees. While rheumatoid arthritis is a chronic condition seen in younger people
  • Gout  – This is a form of arthritis. Uric acid crystals form in the joint, causing this type of arthritis. Gout is most often associated with the big toe, but it can also affect the knee. Also conditions like Tendonitis and soft tissue injuries, Neuropathy and Neuritis, Myalgia a or Repetitive stress injuries

NECK AND SHOULDER PAIN

Many people experience neck pain or stiffness occasionally. Poor posture can also cause Neck & Shoulder Pain. The bones, ligaments, and muscles of your neck provision your head and allow for the gesture. Neck pain or stiffness can be caused due to any of the abnormalities, inflammation, injury or degeneration.

  • Cervical spondylosis – Progressive degenerative disease of the neck, causing stiffness and pain, sometimes headache and pain radiating to hands
  • Frozen shoulder – a condition affecting connective tissue surrounding the shoulder joint causing inflammation, stiffness, restricted movements, and chronic pain. Even simple actions like raising the arm, wearing a dress, and combing the hair becomes nearly difficult to perform.

Pain Management in Ayurveda

Stage 1 – JOINT REJUVENATION for Mild aches and pain

  • Janu Pichu – An external treatment for the knee joints in Conditions where there is mild intermittent pain
  • Spinal massage – Therapy for your spine and back muscles to relieve pain and stiffness
  • Abhyanga with pottali Sweda – A treatment which comprises fomentation done using medicated herbs/powders; effective in joint pain & other musculoskeletal conditions.
  • Abhyanga Pariseka – This therapy is done after a traditional massage. It strengthens muscles, rejuvenates the tissue good for inflammatory pains

Stage 2 – Pain more than a month and severe

  • Janu Basti for Knee –An external treatment for the knee joints that helps in reducing pain and swelling. It helps in strengthening joints & ligaments, useful in degenerative arthritis & non-specific arthritis. It is suitable for maintenance of optimum joints functions to reduce overuse injury
  • Kati Basti for Back – An external treatment for degenerative diseases of the spine. It decreases inflammation, strengthens the low back muscles, and relieves strains & pain due to bad posture, being overweight, spondylosis & other spinal disorders.
  • Greeva Basti for Neck – treatment for the disorder of the cervical region indicated in painful conditions & relieves stiffness in the neck, and shoulder, lubricates joints & strengthens the muscles & ligaments.

Stage 3 – Chronic cases with the pain of more than 6 weeks

Panchakarma – Purification therapies like Virechana followed by Basti for obesity-linked arthritis along with other therapies which is applicable as per the condition.

The number of days of treatment would be a minimum of 7 /14/ 21 days.
