From counseling fellow members on cordial behavior to being Good Samaritans to passengers in distress, a group of autorickshaw drivers in Bhubneshwar is doing all that it takes to make autorickshaw services more people-friendly and rebuild the community’s image. Shaji's life took a tragic turn in 1998 when an accident at his shop left him with severe injuries to the spine, rendering him paralyzed. But 2019 brought with it a newfound hope after he joined ‘Umbrella by the Differently Abled’ — a remarkable collective of individuals. The initiative aims to provide livelihood opportunities for people with severe disabilities. The life stories of thousands of abandoned and runaway children were rewritten at the shelter,” says Antony D’Cruz, founder of Shanthi Nilayam, recollecting memories of the three-decade-old home. 3) Adhering to the terms of her will, the eyes and body of eminent singer Sudakshina Sarma were donated to Gauhati Medical College and Hospital (GMCH) for furtherance of medical research by her family members on Monday. 4) With the key back-to-school season looming, M&S is offering parents money off children’s clothing in exchange for donated school uniforms, in a bid to help struggling families amid the cost-of-living crisis. 5) The Supreme Court of Nepal has issued an interim order to the government, instructing it to temporarily allow the registration of same-sex marriages. The court order, issued by Justice Til Prasad Shrestha, requires the government to make the necessary arrangements for registering marriages of couples from sexual and gender minority groups if they wish to do so.
