While Banks are closed for Memorial Day, somebody quietly moved $90 million worth of #Bitcoin for a mere $23 fee.
As Americans fire up the grills and unfurl the stars and stripes for Memorial Day, this person moved $90 million for less than the tip you’d leave at a fancy steakhouse.
If this had to go through #banks, the funds would be “processing” until the long weekend ended. Once the bankers fold their lawn chairs and return, they would levy an outrageous transaction fee, taking a sizeable chunk of that $90 million pie while also justifying an exorbitant same-day transfer fee.
Add to this the bureaucratic maze of verifications, paperwork and the risk of an outright rejection due to the size of the transaction. Traditional #finance is still stuck in the fax machine era.

🔔 State retirement systems in America are on shaky ground.
🌟 Best and worst-funded pension funds:
1️⃣ Top performers (No shortfall to fund retirements): Tennessee, South Dakota, Washington, and Utah.
2️⃣ Moderate performers (80% or more funded): Wyoming, Idaho, Arkansas, Virginia, Georgia, and Florida.
3️⃣ Worst performers (Less than 70% funded): Illinois, New Jersey, Michigan, Kentucky, Colorado, and Pennsylvania.
📌 This percentage, The "funded ratio", simply put, is used to describe the health of pension plans.
📌 If a pension’s funded ratio is above 100% - it should have enough assets to fund its spending goals, assuming no extreme events occur.
📌 Currently, the aggregate funded ratio is worse than it was in 2008. Pension funds only have 74.9% (calculated December 2023) of the necessary funds to pay American retirees.
📌 In comparison, the same funds in 2008 had only 77.7% of what they needed going into the Lehman Brothers crisis.

💡Wisconsin becomes the first US state to put Bitcoin on its Balance sheet!
💬 Wisconsin's pension fund added $164 million worth of #Bitcoin to its balance sheet, per a historic May 14th #SEC filing. The argument for putting Bitcoin on one’s investment fund is strong, do refer to the modern portfolio theory.
💬 The first pension funds that allocated to Bitcoin have seen returns of nearly 12X in under five years. While past performance doesn't guarantee future returns, historical analysis supports the potential benefits of a strategic Bitcoin #allocation in securing and vastly boosting the viability of millions of retirees.
🌟Why is this Important?
💬America’s state retirement systems are on shaky ground. Currently, the aggregate funded ratio is worse than it was in 2008 (sigh). Pension funds only have 74.9% (calculated December 2023) of the funds needed to pay retiring Americans. In comparison, the same funds in 2008, going into the Lehman Brothers crisis, had only 77.7% of the funds required.
💬 Pension funds provide retirement income for teachers, state and city officials, public safety officers, utility staff, wildlife officers and more. The US has pledged $6.6 trillion but has only set aside $5.1 trillion, leaving a $1.5 trillion shortfall. Now fund managers know this.
💬 With millions of teachers, state and city employees preparing to retire, the government won’t have the money to help when needed the most. Pension funds recognise the urgency and are shifting asset allocations from safe fixed-income investments to previously overlooked alternative assets and categories.

💫 For many, this will be their first Bitcoin #halving. Those anticipating an immediate meteoric surge in prices post-halving may find themselves disappointed. Historical data suggests otherwise: Bitcoin typically appreciates by a mere 5.31% on average in the ten days following its halving.
🌟𝐖𝐡𝐚𝐭 𝐢𝐬 𝐭𝐡𝐞 𝐁𝐢𝐭𝐜𝐨𝐢𝐧 𝐇𝐚𝐥𝐯𝐢𝐧𝐠?
Picture Bitcoin's entry into the market akin to water flowing from a tap. Post-halving, this flow is reduced by 50%. It's crucial to note that this doesn't halve all the water already collected before the halving. Similarly, your existing Bitcoin holdings remain unaffected; the halving merely slows down the entry of new Bitcoin into the market.

💡 Ethereum co-founder Vitalik Buterin expressed surprise at the lower-than-expected usage of layer-2 networks following the Dencun upgrade.
💡 Despite the upgrade's implementation of blobs to reduce L2 gas fees significantly, the actual usage has been about 67% lower than anticipated. However, L2 networks have seen a doubling in transaction volume since the upgrade.
💡 Buterin and other Ethereum stakeholders had expected even greater increases in L2 traffic due to the reduced gas fees. Some L2 networks have yet to fully integrate the Dencun upgrade, suggesting potential for future growth in usage.
💬 The lower-than-expected usage of L2 following the Dencun upgrade doesn’t come as a huge surprise; for most users, L2 fees weren’t outrageous to begin with. Users are looking for a solution addressing the costs of bridging L1 to L2, or eliminate the need for bridging altogether.

🔔The first Major upgrade for #ethereum since the merge in September 2022 is today! The merge was one of the biggest events in #crypto history and signalled Ethereum’s shift from Proof of Work to Proof of stake, thereby becoming 99.9% more energy efficient.

🌟What is Dencun?
This update rolls out two changes happening simultaneously in Ethereum’s protocol - Deneb (upgrade on ETH’s execution layer) and Cancun (upgrade on consensus layer).
🌟How will Ethereum benefit from Dencun?
The most significant of the 9 proposals that will be implemented is #eip (Ethereum Improvement Protocol) 4844 which is called Proto-dank sharding.
💬 Enhanced Scalability:
Proto-Danksharding will introduce temporary storage space called “blobs”. Data blobs will only be stored for 18 days, during which they will be accessed by L2 rollups (Optimism, Arbitrum, Base, Mode, Zora) to attain higher transaction volumes per second.
💬 Lower transaction fees:
Transaction fees that we pay on Ethereum’s L2s are slated to reduce from a previous cost of about $0.52 to $0.03 [On Optimism L2].
💬 Marks the start of Ethereum’s “Surge Era” - where all development will be focussed towards hitting 100,000 transactions per second. Dencun will improve Ethereum’s security [EIP-6780], and improve communication with other chains [EIP-4788]

I'm sorry to be the bear-er 🐻 of bad news but September, historically, hasn't been the most favourable month for the #bulls .
#data and #priceaction from this last decade highlight a recurring #trend - Bitcoin has on average closed September 6% lesser than what it was traded for at the beginning of the month.
