We bring together nature, people & technology to manage waste holistically through resource recovery & circular economy
About us
Saahas Zero Waste is a socio-environmental enterprise with an overall experience of 10 years in the waste management sector. We believe in a circular economy where all waste is converted to resources. In this context, we leverage technology and data to provide a transparent view of the waste flow and the impact created through responsible waste management. We specialise in designing and executing customised solutions for the goal of zero waste to landfills, especially for bulk waste generators such as technology parks, residential complexes, educational institutions, hotels and others. In 2018, we were awarded the Swachh Best Practice Award by Prime Minister Narendra Modi as recognition of the work done in the space. In addition, we work with brands and producers to channelize plastic waste and e-waste for responsible processing under their extended producer responsibilities. In 2019, we diverted 10,000 MT of plastic waste from dumpsites and other open spaces under the extended producer responsibility program. To close the loop, we also offer products made from waste such as roofing sheets, clipboards, stationary, upcycled textile products, apparel and more. Our work supports livelihoods at the base of the pyramid and we consistently strive towards increasing the social impact of our work.

This new chapter is brimming with opportunities to drive innovation and reshape perspectives on waste. We are happy to embark on this transformative journey with you all. #leadershiptransition #circulareconomy
Handing over the baton For the last ten years I have looked to live by a poster which had an important place behind my desk. “You are not a leader until you have produced another leader who can produce another leader..” Last month I handed over the CEO baton to my colleague, Shobha Raghavan. For the last ten years, we have worked together and leaned on each other so that the organization would benefit from our collective skills, knowledge and experience. Our new CEO Shobha Raghavan is well placed to guide the organization Saahas Zero Waste through its next crucial phase when we will scale up and cross the Rs 100 crore revenue barrier. We recognize that during this phase we will need to also double up on efforts to anchor environmental and social impact. I will therefore play a new role going forward. As the CTO (Chief Transformation Officer) in the organization, I will report to Shobha but focus on transforming the approach to waste management. I will work consistently with our growing internal team to ensure that together we align with our core values. Likewise guide the external engagement with customers, influencers, institutions and government bodies to bring them on the path of execution of circular systems and resource recovery. The element of thought leadership in my new role is stimulating. I hope to meet my targets but more importantly truly transform our attitude and thinking on waste. #leadership #transformation #impact #saahaszerowaste

We first met Poonam in 2005, when Wilma was invited her to speak to her students at Srishti Manipal Institute of Art, Design and Technology. Wilma Rodrigues at that time was a part of NGO Saahas and what ensued was a long conversation on the work of NGO Saahas. Of course, there was an intense discussion on composting and the system which the NGO Saahas had set up and also operating in the State Bank of India in #Bangalore. In less than a year after that first meeting, Poonam Bir Kasturi started Daily Dump and NGO Saahas was privileged to be a part of the celebrations that followed a small inauguration. Poonam made composting and indeed waste management beautiful. Whether it was the hardware in terms of the composters but also the communication which had both clarity and aesthetics. She had such a good command over design. It was Poonam who helped us design our firsts E-waste/battery collection bin which the NGO Saahas launched on Earth Day in 2007. This was a bin which we placed in malls, schools and residences. Then again Poonam and Daily Dump helped NGO Saahas design and produce an elegant sorting trough, which became a part of the community waste management facilities (Kasa Rasa) of the NGO Saahas. These sorting troughs are now used extensively by SZW in all our customer sites. A few months back we were so glad to host Poonam and Arjun Dev who visited us in our office. Poonam was keen to ensure that Daily Dump would continue to inspire and be a force for composting across the country. Indeed we now have the joint responsibility to bring composting home to families and communities across the country. Rest in Peace Compostwali -Poonam Bir Kasturi. Thank you for connecting us to our mother earth.
