The Calcutta High Court recently noted that in certain social circles, terms like 'Sweety' and 'Baby' are commonly used to address women, and such usage doesn’t necessarily imply a sexual connotation. However, in the same judgment, the Court also cautioned against potential misuse of the Prevention of Sexual Harassment of Woman at Workplace (Prevention, Prohibition and Redressal) Act (POSH Act), highlighting that misuse could inadvertently reinforce existing barriers for women in the workplace. While we acknowledge the perspective of the Calcutta High Court on this matter, we respectfully hold a different view. Here are some words we feel should be used wisely and mindfully especially when at the workplace.
