Dr Deepraj Bhandarkar is a Laparoscopic, Thoracoscopic and Bariatric Surgeon who works at Hinduja, Hinduja Healthcare Surgical, Breach Candy and Dalvi Hospitals in Mumbai. Considered a National Expert in the field of Minimal Access (keyhole) Surgery and a pioneer in Single Incision Laparoscopic Surgery, he has over 25 years of experience in the field. He offers treatment for a variety of abdominal diseases, chest diseases, obesity and sweaty palms (hyperhidrosis).

He completed his undergraduate studies from Grant Medical College (1981 – 1987) and surgical residency from J. J. Hospital, Mumbai (1988 – 1991). On May 31st, 1990 Dr Bhandarkar participated in the first-ever laparoscopic cholecystectomy performed in India and since then developed a keen interest in laparoscopic surgery. He trained extensively in the United Kingdom from 1992 to 1997. In 1997, he was awarded the prestigious “Traveling Fellowship of the Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Glasgow” to visit the Royal Brisbane Hospital, Australia and train further in laparoscopic surgery. The same year he also obtained the ‘Diploma in Laparoscopic Surgery’ from University of Strasbourg, France.

He returned to India in 1997 and developed a practice exclusively dedicated to Minimal Access Surgery. He updates himself regularly by visiting centres of excellence abroad. He visited Mount Sinai Hospital, New York in 2002 (laparoscopic adrenal and splenic surgery), St John of God Hospital, Perth in 2006 (bariatric surgery) and University of Pecs, Hungary in 2012 (advanced thoracoscopic surgery).
